Budget analysts require a great deal of knowledge and technical skill to develop a well-justified, superior budget document. Providing training opportunities to build these skills is not always simple. Exceptional classes are not easy to find and may be a significant financial investment. Training Opportunities

First, you can click on the link to the right to go to the Joint Financial Management Improvement Program’s (JFMIP) website. JFMIP has determined the core competencies for budget staff and developed a list of recommended courses based on those skill sets.

Second, the Budget, Policy and Management (BPM) Division within the Office of Budget developed an on-line, interactive tutorial to explain the Federal Budget Process. The tutorial provides basic details for new budget analysts, but also describes complex issues as a reference tool for experienced budgeteers. You need a Shockwave plug-in to view the tutorial.

Finally, each Spring, the Budget Office offers a budget training seminar covering a wide variety of budget topics. You can click on the link to the right to look at the FY 1999 seminar’s agenda and evaluation results. Please contact our office if you would like to request a training topic for the next seminar.
